Mission Statement

The mission of the Emmet County Nature Center Foundation is to promote environmental education for all residents and visitors of Emmet County by specifically organizing the fundraising effort for the construction and upkeep of the Emmet County Conservation Nature Center, to be built at the Wolden Recreation Area.

Purposes for Funds Generated

construction of a 30' x 60' facility with basement and loft area that will house the county conservation staff, classroom space for both student and adult educational opportunities, a reception and display area, and an area patrons may use for special events

displays and materials to furnish the Emmet County Nature Center

landscaping, cement work and a parking area

Objective One

    The Emmet County Nature Center will provide increased opportunities in conservation, education and recreation.
      1. The Emmet County Nature Center will be open regular hours to provide both area residents and visitors in the Emmet County park system an opportunity to find out more about Emmet County's unique natural history and many ecosystems.
      2. The display area will provide visitors with a visual representation of the county parks and wildlife areas in Emmet County, and will offer a hands-on learning experience.


Objective Two
    The Emmet County Conservation Board, through its director and naturalist, provide an important educational tool for students in Emmet county.
      1. The naturalist, director and staff offer many environmental programs free of charge to the schools in Emmet County.
      2. This central location at the Wolden Recreation Area will provide both outdoor and indoor (classroom) opportunities.
        Area youth will utilize the Emmet County Nature Center through school field trips and other youth group outings.
        Adults will use the center for meetings and special programs offered at the Emmet County Nature Center.


Objective Three
    The Emmet County Nature Center will be the cornerstone for all of the Emmet County parks.
      1. The center is another way to promote Emmet County as a place to both live and visit.
      2. Its central location will provide for increased staff worker efficiency.
